"Internet traffic transit does not create dependence": Pashinyan on the agreement between Telecom Armenia and AzerTelecom
YEREVAN, June 25. /ARКА/. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan thinks that the agreement between Telecom Armenia and AzerTelecom on mutual internet traffic transit "strengthens Armenia's position, rather than creating dependence."

"Transit does not create dependence for the transit country; it creates dependence for the transit destination. This is simple logic," Pashinyan said at a briefing on Thursday, commenting on the agreement between the Armenian and Azerbaijani telecommunications companies.

He noted the importance of Armenia becoming a hub for transit routes.

"The more traffic passes through Armenia, the greater its economic and political weight, as well as its level of security," Pashinyan said.

The Prime Minister emphasized that Armenia is the "Crossroads of the World"—from south to north, from north to south, from east to west, and from west to east.

According to him, as many cables, pipelines, roads, railways, and air routes as possible should pass through the country, as this guarantees peace and security.

Earlier, Team Telecom Armenia announced the signing of a bilateral agreement with AzerTelecom, providing for the transmission and supply of transit internet through the two countries on a commercial basis.

The news sparked widespread discussion among IT and information security specialists, as well as ordinary users.

In a further comment, Team Telecom Armenia stated that as part of its cooperation with AzerTelecom, Azerbaijani traffic will be carried through its infrastructure, although the Armenian side does not plan to use Azerbaijani infrastructure.

Information security expert Ruben Muradyan stated that such a scheme could increase Azerbaijan's dependence on Armenian infrastructure and create additional backup communication routes. He noted that the possible transmission of Armenian traffic through AzerTelecom's infrastructure may carry risks.
