YEREVAN, June 24. /ARКА/. On Tuesday, Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan and a delegation from OpenAI, who arrived in Armenia, discussed the implementation of the ChatGPT Edu platform in the Armenian education system.
According to the press service of the RA Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports, Andreasyan stated that the ChatGPT Edu platform could become an effective tool for both higher education (for teachers and students), and general education (for high school teachers and students).
The minister emphasized the importance of not only implementing the technology but also developing a comprehensive policy in this area, including regulatory issues, risk management, and principles of safe use.
"In recent years, initiatives to introduce artificial intelligence and develop AI literacy have been consistently expanding in the Armenian education system. The "Generation AI" and STEP.ai programs are successfully implemented in public schools, helping students develop basic knowledge of AI, creative thinking, and technological skills, as well as the safe and responsible use of AI tools. A new bachelor's degree program in artificial intelligence will be launched at Yerevan State University in September 2026," Andreasyan noted.
OpenAI's Partnerships Representative, Alina Leon, emphasized the importance of the partnership with Armenia, noting that key areas of collaboration include promoting the safe and responsible use of AI in education, as well as developing the skills of teachers and students to effectively utilize the technology.
With the start of the new academic year, Armenia's educational, engineering, and research communities will receive approximately 50,000 free subscriptions as part of a collaboration between the RA Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports, OpenAI, and Firebird. The necessary preparatory work and training sessions are planned for September to ensure the program's launch in the new academic year.
During the initial phase of the initiative, in the 2026–2027 academic year, access to the ChatGPT Edu platform will be provided through funding from Firebird. Following an assessment of the program's effectiveness and educational outcomes, government funding will be considered to integrate the platform into the national education system as a sustainable, long-term component.
