Expert asks Team Telecom Armenia for technical details of agreement with AzerTelecom
YEREVAN, June 22. /ARКА/. CyberHUB-AM co-founder and information security expert Artur Papyan reported that he has asked Team Telecom Armenia to provide additional technical details of the agreement with AzerTelecom.

Earlier, Telecom Armenia announced the signing of a bilateral agreement with AzerTelecom, providing for the transmission and supply of internet transit through the two countries on a commercial basis.

"I asked Team Telecom Armenia to provide additional technical details of the deal, as I am confident that, given the post-election uncertainty and the fresh narratives about '300,000 Azerbaijanis,' this topic will also be exploited for political purposes," Papyan wrote on his Facebook page.

According to the expert, the media landscape is currently divided between two extremes: one side talks about Azerbaijan's alleged total control, while the other claims that the agreement, on the contrary, makes Azerbaijan completely dependent.

Papyan believes that neither side has yet provided a sound technical argument, so before such discussions escalate further, it's important to provide objective technical context.

"Armenia is already a major regional transit hub. Many don't realize that Telecom Armenia is a major international internet provider, and approximately 90% of internet traffic passing through Armenia's infrastructure transits through Iran to several Middle Eastern countries, without ever entering local networks," he noted.

Papyan also praised Telecom Armenia's acquisition of stakes in the Georgian operator SkyTel and the Irish company Imagine Broadband, noting that the growing company needs to expand its market base.

According to the expert, as far as he knows, the deal with the Irish company Team has undergone a series of security audits, and the company cannot allow data leaks from Armenian users.

Papyan said he considered the allegations of "Azerbaijani control" to be baseless, but refrained from jumping to conclusions until he received technical details.
