Armenian expert sees risks for Armenia in Telecom Armenia and Azertelecom agreement
YEREVAN, June 22. /ARКА/. Turkologist and PhD in history Varuzhan Geghamyan commented on the cooperation agreement between the Armenian company Telecom Armenia and the Azerbaijani company Azertelecom, expressing concern about potential risks for Armenia.

Earlier on Monday, Telecom Armenia announced the signing of a bilateral agreement with Azertelecom, providing for the transmission and supply of transit internet traffic through the two countries on a commercial basis. The company stated that the agreement is aimed at diversifying communication routes in the region, increasing the reliability of telecommunications networks, and developing cooperation in the telecommunications sector.

"There are no details yet, and I don't want to draw any final conclusions, but the first question that arises is: what guarantees are there that Azerbaijan will not monitor Armenian internet traffic and engage in anti-Armenian interference at the right time?" — Geghamyan wrote on his Telegram channel.

He also stated that Baku is not pursuing equal cooperation with Yerevan.

"Any action is based on the logic of a total war against Armenia—to weaken the Armenian state as much as possible and make it dependent. Therefore, treating this news with optimism is, to put it mildly, naive," the Turkologist thinks.
