Armenia's Cyber Police has warned of a new fraudulent scheme in which criminals promise residents a month of free travel on Yerevan's public transportation.
YEREVAN, July 13. /ARKA/. Armenia's Cyber Police has warned of a new fraudulent scheme in which criminals promise residents a month of free travel on Yerevan's public transportation.
"Recently, there have been cases of money theft, where fake advertisements are distributed on Facebook and Instagram under the name of Telcell Wallet offering free travel on Yerevan's public transportation for one month," the agency said in a statement.
After clicking the links in the advertisements, users are prompted to enter a confirmation code sent to their phone number.
With this code, the criminals gain access to the Telcell Wallet account and can steal funds from both the e-wallet and the bank cards linked to it.
The Cyber Police urges people not to click suspicious links on social media, even if the ads are distributed on behalf of reputable organizations.
They also urge people not to share SMS confirmation codes, passwords, or other confidential information with third parties. They also urge people to only use the official Telcell Wallet app for transactions.
"Fraudsters often use attractive offers, promises of free services, or promotions to mislead citizens and gain access to their funds," the agency reminded.
