Facebook becomes leading social networking service in Armenia
YEREVAN, February 2. /ARKA/. Over the last 10 years the Facebook social networking service has ousted all local social networking services from the Armenian market, a cyber security expert Samvel Martirosyan told a news conference today, adding that a similar process is observed in almost all countries where Facebook is present.
He said until recently Facebook was not the leading social networking service only in Armenia, Belarus and Russia, and also in China and Iran, where it is banned.
Martirosyan said that Facebook in the neighboring Georgia is already the leading social networking service. As for Azerbaijan, the registered female users there are fewer than men.
According to him, today the number of active Facebook users in Armenia has already reached 1.1 million per month. Along with that many users from once the most popular social networking service Odnoklassniki are moving to Facebook.
He said the most active growth of Armenia-based users was registered by Instagram. The number of its registered users has increased by 2.5 times reaching 0.5 million. It has become one of the fastest growing in the country. Martirosyan explains these migration trends by the change of interests.
"Young people under the age of 35 who are not interested in political discussions that often develop in Facebook, migrate to Instagram,’ said Martirosyan.
According to him, young people are more interested in photos and video materials, in the possibility to write their stories, which are more difficult for people of older generation to understand.
Speaking of Twitter, he noted that this social network, in general, becomes a place for communication, however, as statistics show, mainly for highly intellectual individuals. --0--
