Armenian cybersecurity expert assesses impact of Pavel Durov's arrest on Telegram users in Armenia

YEREVAN, August 26. /ARKA/. Artur Papyan, an expert in cybersecurity, has commented on the implications of the recent arrest of Telegram CEO Pavel Durov in France for Armenian users of the messaging app.

"What does this mean for the numerous users of the application in Armenia? For the most part, nothing. Continue using the app as before, keeping in mind that it is not a secure chat application but a social network with virtually no moderation," Papyan wrote on Facebook.

Durov was reportedly arrested at Le Bourget Airport in Paris on Saturday. According to French media, Durov arrived in France on his private jet from Azerbaijan. The report indicates that an arrest warrant was issued for Durov as part of a preliminary investigation, with charges potentially including terrorism, drug trafficking, complicity, fraud, pedophilic content, and money laundering.
