Rostec radio beacon installed in southern Armenia: it will help aircraft navigate in the mountains

YEREVAN, May 20. /ARКА/. The developer and manufacturer of air navigation systems "Azimut" (part of Rostec) has supplied Armenia with a radio beacon that will help aircraft navigate in mountainous terrain and in difficult weather conditions, the Rostec state corporation told TASS.
The equipment was installed near the city of Sisian.
"We have completed testing of the VOR/DME 2700 in Armenia, which will allow aircraft to navigate on air routes in mountainous terrain and in bad weather," the statement quotes Aleksey Galchenkov, Deputy General Director of "Azimut", as saying.
He also noted that the radio beacon is currently being successfully operated in Stavropol, Chelyabinsk, Kaliningrad, Khabarovsk, Novosibirsk and other cities of Russia, as well as in foreign airports.
The VOR/DME 2700 radio beacon determines the location of an aircraft. It operates in the VHF range (very high frequency, range from 30 to 300 MHz) and can simultaneously guide up to 200 aircraft. The equipment is recommended by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) as the main means of navigation on air routes, as well as an additional means when aircraft are approaching for landing.
