P.I.D. team from AYB school in Yerevan was recognized as the winner of the first ArmRobotics national competition for school students, initiated and conducted by the Union of Information Technology Enterprises (UITE).
YEREVAN, July 4. / ARKA /. P.I.D. team from AYB school in Yerevan was recognized as the winner of the first ArmRobotics national competition for school students, initiated and conducted by the Union of Information Technology Enterprises (UITE).
The first national competition of robots was held in Yerevan on June 28 at YerevanExpo hall. It attracted 16 school teams who competed in Line Tracking category as part of Armenia’s Open Robotics Championship.
Digital Cloud team from the branch of Armenia’s State Engineering University in the second largest town of Gyumri was second. It was followed by Danger team from #5 senior school in Vanadzor. The winners received cash prizes of 300,000, 200,000 and 100,000 drams respectively.
The students had been tasked to create robots that would be able to move along pre-planned lines and mazes.
"Time has shown that school students are really interested in robotics that can in turn help them develop their engineering thinking," said UITE executive director Karen Vardanyan
The competition was organized by UITE together with general sponsor VivaCell-MTS telecom and World Vision Armenia charity organization.
The first open championship of robotics was held in Armenia in 2008 attracting 11 teams from Armenia, Nagorno-Karabakh and Iran. The aim of the competition is to spur interest of school and university students in information technology. According to UITE, there are 60 robotics school groups in Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh involving about 700 students.
The contest consists of several categories: Line Tracking, Competition of Robots Recognizing Objects by Color and Size, Marble Crossing and Minesweeper Robots. ---0---
