Large-Scale Collaboration: OpenAI Plans to Implement ChatGPT Edu in Armenian Schools and Universities

The ChatGPT Edu platform is planned to be implemented in Armenian schools and universities starting in the 2026-2027 academic year as part of a collaboration between the RA Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport, Firebird, and OpenAI.
YEREVAN, May 29. /ARKA/. The ChatGPT Edu platform is planned to be implemented in Armenian schools and universities starting in the 2026-2027 academic year as part of a collaboration between the RA Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport, Firebird, and OpenAI.
The corresponding cooperation agreement was signed on Friday in Yerevan by RA Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport Zhanna Andreasyan and Firebird co-founder Alexander Yesayan. OpenAI's Education for Countries Initiative Director, Jenna Dewan, joined the event remotely.
Program Budget
Responding to ARKA's question about the program budget, Yesayan stated that Firebird's current support amounts to approximately $700,000.
He stated that the government should continue to finance the program.
Access to ChatGPT Edu
Minister Andreasyan stated that the initiative will provide a new level of accessibility for AI tools in Armenia's educational system.
She stated that the initial phase will involve 50,000 educational subscriptions, and this number will be increased in the future.
The minister stated that the program will cover all high schools (grades 10-12) and universities in Armenia. Teachers will undergo appropriate training and be given access to the platform.
Yesayan, in turn, expressed confidence that the program will be fully implemented by September 1.
"Our partners from OpenAI are participating remotely, but will soon arrive in Armenia to begin specific work on implementing the program," he said.
AI in the Education System
Andreasyan emphasized that initiatives to utilize and expand AI tools and improve literacy in this field are ongoing in the Armenian education system.
"AI has entered our reality, and education systems around the world are faced with the need to interact with this reality. Armenia, like many advanced countries, sees its future in technological development. This initiative will create new opportunities for our universities, schools, professors, students, and schoolchildren," Andreasyan said.
OpenAI's Position
OpenAI representative Jenna Dewan noted that collaboration with the Armenian Ministry of Education and Firebird will ensure ChatGPT Edu is accessible to students, educators, and researchers in Armenia.
According to her, this is about the safe, creative, and effective use of advanced AI tools.
"Armenia has strong human capital and a developing digital infrastructure, and this initiative can help develop the next generation of AI-savvy innovators," Dewan said.
