YEREVAN, August 25. /ARКА/. The Armenian government is discussing restrictions for minors on social media, stated Sargis Khandanyan, Chairman of the RA National Assembly Standing Committee on Foreign Relations.
Earlier, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan proposed that the opposition create a working group to discuss banning anonymous accounts on social media and adopting a corresponding law.
"The prime minister's idea is very good. And since the government is discussing the possibility of introducing age restrictions on this issue, in particular, restricting minors' rights to use social media, this could indeed be useful," Khandanyan noted at a parliamentary session on Tuesday.
However, the MP expressed concern that the effectiveness of this law may be limited.
"In particular, during the pre-election period, investigations were published revealing that the services of the so-called 'fake news factories,' which are primarily used by the opposition, are provided outside of Armenia. “Therefore, this law may prove ineffective in relation to this part of the activity,” Khandanyan said.
