Armenia aims to become a regional tech hub with EU participation: Minister to Ambassador Maragos
YEREVAN, July 2. /ARКА/. The possibilities of strengthening EU cooperation with Armenia within the framework of the EU4 Innovation East regional program were discussed by RA High-Tech Industry Minister Mkhitar Hayrapetyan and Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Vasilis Maragos.
The issues of implementing innovation policies and programs, as well as expanding the EU's participation in regional development initiatives were discussed.
Hayrapetyan presented the latest achievements, developments and upcoming initiatives in the technological sphere of Armenia. He emphasized that one of the priority tasks of the Armenian government is to turn the country into a regional technological hub, which is in line with the goals of cooperation between the EU and Armenia within the framework of the EU4 Innovation East program.
The Minister especially noted the importance of involving leading EU technology companies in the technological ecosystem of Armenia, emphasizing the need to develop mutually beneficial cooperation in the field of scientific, technical and experimental design developments. In this direction, special attention was paid to the development of relevant infrastructure, as well as the expansion of the use of artificial intelligence (AI).
Ambassador Maragos, in turn, confirmed the EU's readiness to deepen technological cooperation with Armenia through concrete steps.
During the meeting, Armenia's participation in the EU4 Innovation East regional initiative and the potential for supporting the strengthening of the innovation ecosystem in the country were discussed in detail. The parties emphasized the need to continue mutually beneficial cooperation to stimulate innovation and ensure sustainable development. Particular attention was paid to the importance of increasing the international visibility of the technology sector in Armenia - in terms of expanding international cooperation, attracting investment and sustainable growth.
The EU4Innovation East program is a regional initiative implemented by the European Union to develop innovation and startup ecosystems in the Eastern Partnership countries.
