YEREVAN, March 13. /ARKA/. Armenian Diaspora Ministry on Tuesday presented in Yerevan the site “Virtual museum of Armenian Diaspora”.

Armenian Diaspora Minister Hranush Hakobyan said that the goal of the project is introduction of the Armenian history, its present and future, highlighting the idea of “Armenians – one nation, regardless of the place of residence, and Armenia – birthplace of all Armenians” through establishment of relations between Armenians worldwide and Republic of Armenia.

“The goal of the project is to assist in elimination of barriers between classic and new Armenian Diaspora and their unification, increase of recognition level and cooperation between motherland and Armenian communities of Diaspora, maintenance of Armenian identity, as well as development of consciousness of Armenian statehood”, said Hakobyan during presentation.

The site “Virtual museum of Armenian Diaspora” presents a detailed information on the Armenian communities, Armenian organizations, religious structures, as well as Armenians in the countries where do not exist Armenian communities, even video- and audio material.

There is also a chapter “Armenian genealogy” in the site where the visitor upon completion of all inflammation about himself and his parents, can establish genealogy of his family.

According to the head of the project “Armenian genealogy” Lilit Makaryan, the project since 2007 implements genealogical studies. 

“Today over 1.6 thousand Armenian families with the help of our system have established their family genealogy. Today, the oldest genealogy goes back to 1596, and the largest consists of 965 people.

For the establishment of the site “Virtual museum of Armenian Diaspora” the state budget allocated about 6 million drams. The site is available in three languages – Armenian, Russian and English. In 2012, Western Armenian version of the site will also be launched. --0—
