Armenian schoolchildren win two bronze medals at International Olympiad on Artificial Intelligence in Astana
YEREVAN, August 12. /ARKA/. Armenian schoolchildren won two bronze medals at the International Olympiad on Artificial Intelligence (IOAI), which took place from August 2-8 in Astana, Kazakhstan, the press service of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports reported.
This year, Armenia was represented by two teams, each consisting of four students (the maximum number allowed at the IOAI).
A team of four representing the Vanadzor Specialized School with Advanced Mathematics and Natural Sciences successfully competed in the team competition: Alen Gevorgyan, Aram Amirkhanyan, Serezha Nazaryan, and Vahe Pluzyan. In a competition representing 120 countries, they placed fifth, behind only teams from New Zealand, Hong Kong, Puerto Rico, and Spain. In the individual competition, Aram Amirkhanyan and Razmik Yepremyan (Artashes Shahinyan Specialized Physics and Mathematics School) took bronze.
Three other students—Artem Hovhannisyan (Gyumri Photon Lyceum), Gurgen Bayburdyan (Gyumri Photon Lyceum), and David Ghazaryan (Vagharshapat High School No. 5)—received honorable mentions.
The Olympiad was held in three stages: home (three tasks), team (two-stage tasks—simulation and with the Galbot robot), and individual (six AI tasks).
The Armenian team was formed following a three-stage national selection process involving approximately 170 students from various schools across the country.
Of the eight Olympiad participants, six were students enrolled in the "Generation Artificial Intelligence (AI)" program, implemented by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport and the Foundation for Armenian Science and Technology (FAST), studying artificial intelligence during their three years of high school.
This is the second year in a row that Armenian students are participating in the International AI Olympiad. Last year, Aram Amirkhanyan won a bronze medal in the individual competition at the competition held in Beijing.-0-
