Microchip Technology Expands Presence in Armenia’s Regions; Investment Programs Under Discussion with Authorities

YEREVAN, October 2. /ARKA/. Prospects for expanding the operations of the US-based company Microchip Technology in Armenia’s regions and its investment programs were discussed during a meeting between Davit Tadevosyan, Armenia’s Minister of High-Tech Industry, and company representatives.

According to the ministry’s press service, the meeting between the minister and Shakil Piray, Corporate Vice President of Microchip Technology’s FPGA division, took place on October 1.

The parties discussed the development and expansion of the company's activities in Armenia, specifically its operations in Gyumri, Vanadzor, and Ijevan. They highlighted the role of Microchip Technology’s presence in developing the high-tech sector in the regions, attracting skilled professionals, and strengthening local technology ecosystems.

Particular attention was paid to the export license approved in June 2026 by the US Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) for the company's operations in Armenia, as well as its potential impact on Microchip Technology’s future work, investment programs, and development opportunities.

Discussions also covered ensuring the necessary conditions for importing Microchip products into Armenia. In this context, the parties addressed ongoing discussions between the ministry, international semiconductor companies, and US government representatives regarding the creation of a classified product list.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue working on the discussed areas and to expand their cooperation.

Microchip Technology Inc. is a US semiconductor company that develops and manufactures microcontrollers, microprocessors, FPGAs, analog and power management solutions, and components for embedded systems. The company has been operating in Armenia since 2023, following its acquisition of Instigate Semiconductor. Currently, it has divisions in Yerevan, Gyumri, Vanadzor, and Ijevan. According to the company, its workforce in the country has grown by 43% since it entered the Armenian market.
