YEREVAN, October 17. /ARKA/. Armenia plans to introduce a digital state oversight system for mining industry operations, effective January 2029, announced Hovhannes Martirosyan, head of the country’s Nature Protection and Subsoil Inspection Body.
Speaking at the "Mining Armenia Forum 2026" in Tsaghkadzor, Martirosyan emphasized the need to improve existing oversight mechanisms for mining enterprises, taking into account the specific risks inherent to the sector. His remarks were reported by several Armenian media outlets.
According to Martirosyan, the current oversight system does not always allow for the timely detection of potential violations. In some instances, risks are only identified during the course of actual inspections, which limits the ability to prevent them beforehand.
The head of the inspection body also pointed to issues regarding the reliability of the raw data used to evaluate company operations, as well as the documentation of the environmental and other impacts resulting from their activities.
The new digital system is designed to collect monitoring data in real time. Decisions within the framework of state oversight will then be made based on the analysis of this incoming data.
Previously, Armenia’s Nature Protection and Subsoil Inspection Body announced the approval of a digitalization concept for the agency, which includes the development of oversight mechanisms focused on risk assessment and the prevention of violations.
