YEREVAN, October 19. /ARKA/. AI-driven and digital systems for biodiversity monitoring will be showcased at the COP17 technology exhibition in Yerevan.
The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity, in collaboration with the Government of the Republic of Armenia and with the support of the Republic of Korea under the auspices of the Bio-Bridge Initiative is organizing the 2026 Biodiversity Technology and Innovation Expo.
The exhibition will take place in Yerevan from October 19 to 30, 2026, as part of the 2026 UN Biodiversity Conference.
The first rotation of participants for the Biodiversity Technology and Innovation Expo will begin on October 19 and run through October 21.
The objectives of the 2026 Biodiversity Technology and Innovation Expo include:
- showcasing cutting-edge technologies and innovative solutions relevant to the conservation of biological diversity and the sustainable use of its components;
- raising awareness about existing technological and innovative opportunities that can support the implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity and its protocols;
- facilitating professional networking among participants and fostering strategic partnerships for the development and/or deployment of new technologies and tools.
The exhibition will feature dedicated spaces for exhibitors from the public and private sectors, academic and research institutions, and non-profit organizations.
In these areas, they will be able to present advanced technologies and innovative solutions pertinent to the conservation of biological diversity and the sustainable use of its components. According to the official UN Convention program, participants will present several technological solutions:
- Smart Weed Alert Tool (SWAT) — a tool for the early detection of invasive plants. The system utilizes GBIF data and citizen science observations to generate automated alerts regarding the emergence of new plant infestations.
- Conservation X Labs — solutions for analyzing natural data and assessing the impact of business activities on ecosystems.
- Centre for Tropical Livestock Genetics and Health — cellular and genetic technologies for preserving the biodiversity of livestock and aquatic organisms.
Also participating in the first rotation is Zero Phase with its "Silent Pollution" project, which is based on hydroacoustic research conducted on Lake Sevan.
