Armenian wikipedia ranked 75th in number of articles

YEREVAN, September 5. /ARKA/. Armenian version of Wikipedia hy.wikipedia.org is ranked as 75th in the number of published articles among 263 other versions, an editor of Armenian Wikipedia Vachagan Hratyan said at Novosti International press center on Wednesday.

“As of now Armenian Wikipedia has over 30,000 articles. I should mention that over the past year the number of articles has increased twice,” Hratyan said.

According to him, the top leaders in a number of published articles are English, German, Arabic, Chinese, Polish, Dutch and Russian versions of Wikipedia. He underlined that the Armenian Internet audience is quite passive in editing Wikipedia articles.

“There are just 200 users who are editing Armenian articles, of them only 20 are active,” he informed.

On her side, Wikimedia development in Armenia coordinator Susanna Mkrtchyan called on the Armenian Internet community to be more active in writing new Articles and editing the existing ones.

She also prioritized the necessity to develop Wikiprojects in the Armenian universities.
“For example, in Spain it were the students who decided to translate all Spanish articles into English. Students in Spain were officially assigned to translate this or that article, besides they were writing new articles. We can do the same in our universities,” Mkrtchyan added.—0-
