Yandex starts grading traffic congestion in Armenia

YEREVAN, March 28. /ARKA/. Yandex has started grading traffic congestion on roads in Yerevan on a ten-point scale.

The company’s press office reported Tuesday that an indicator has appeared in Yandex.Maps navigator, which gauges things on roads in points – 0 to 3 points mean that roads are open, from 4 to 6 points mean traffic congestion and from 7 to 10 points show heavy congestion.

Information about congestion will allow quick assessment of the situation on roads. For example, one will look at the map and decide what to do.
Before introduction of the assessment system, Yandex explored things on the city roads. In particular, in business days, traffic become tense from 7:00 am to 8:30 am with the peak estimated at five or six points.

Later traffic tension eases, but it reach the morning degree (5 or 6 points) by 12:30.

Such traffic congestion at midday is not usual for the majority of cities where Yandex system operates.
However, the most challenging are evening hours, when working people return home. The most complicated period of time is between 17:30 and 18:40 – it is estimated at seven or eight points.

Evening bottlenecks last longer than morning ones in Yerevan, just as in many other cities.
On weekend days, traffic jams are seen neither in morning nor in evening hours, but instead, tension escalates to four or five points on Saturdays at 11:30 to 19:00.
On Sundays, traffic tension exceeds three points in very rare cases.

In 2015, Yandex launched its Maps and Navigator services in Armenia. One year later, first detailed images appeared and Yandex. Taxi service became available not only in Yerevan, but also in the country’s second and third biggest cities – Gyumri and Vanadzor. Now Yandex.Taxi service is available in 11 other cities.

In 2017, Yandex has translated Yandex.Maps interface editorial content to Armenian language and opened free programming schools in Vanadzor and Gyumri. --0----
