Armenia Wants to Maintain Employer Support for Migrant Labor in the IT Sector
YEREVAN, May 6. /ARKA/. At its session on Wednesday, the National Assembly of Armenia adopted in the first reading amendments to the law "On State Support in the Sphere of High Technologies" and repealed the law "On State Support in the Sphere of Information Technology."

Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Economic Affairs Babken Tunyan stated that in 2024, the National Assembly adopted provisions on support for the high-tech sector, which entered into force on January 1, 2025. Over the past year, many companies received state support—some in the form of reduced tax rates, some in the form of refunds.

"In 2025, it was IT companies that received support, although according to the law passed by parliament, the support mechanism was supposed to change on January 1, 2026. "The assistance should have been provided not to companies, but to the migrants working for them," Tunyan noted.

He stated that experience in the first months of 2026 demonstrated that technical issues arose when migrants applied for support and received the corresponding payments. For this reason, it was decided to change the mechanism and continue providing support to migrants through companies.

He emphasized that this would not incur new tax liabilities for companies.

"Secondly, the changes will create more favorable conditions for companies engaged in commercial activities, and they will be provided with more significant support," Tunyan said.

The National Assembly also decided on a special procedure for discussing these amendments to the law.
