YEREVAN, April 16. /ARKA/. VivaCell-MTS Armenian mobile operator is to launch 3G commercial services on April 17, the company’s press service reported. The presentation is to be held in Giumry.

In the first stage, the service is to be launched in three main cities of Armenia – Yerevan, Giumry and Vanadzor.
Huawei

Technologies Co. Ltd. was selected as supplier of equipment for building of 3G mobile network in Armenia. Apart from equipment supplies, Huawei has also carried out construction and launching, integration of the 3G network in the current GSM network in the country, as well as provides technical support of 3G network operations.

K-Telecom company (VivaCell-MTS brand) was issued a 3G frequency license in October 2007 valid till 2017. The license will allow the company expanding a UMTS network and offering the entire range of high-speed mobile services to subscribers, including wide-band transmission throughout the country.

VivaCell-MTS (K-Telecom) is a major mobile communication operator in Armenia providing a wide range of voice communication and data transmission services. The company operates throughout the country and has a GSM 900/1800 standard license valid till 2019.

Mobile Telesystems (MTS), major Russian mobile operator holds 80% of the shares of VivaCell with the remaining 20% owned by Lebanese investment Fattouch Group. Number of VivaCell-MTS’s subscribers had totalled 2.05mln by the end of February 2009. –0—
