Rostelecom in Armenia revives Vrubel’s paintings due to modern technology
YEREVAN, March 19. /ARKA/. As part of a project called "The Return of the stolen Vrubel" Armenia’s National Academic Opera and Ballet Theater hosted a literary and musical performance called "Lermontov-Rubinstein-Vrubel", saturated with modern animation solutions, GNC Alfa, the Armenian subsidiary of Russian Rostelecom (trading as Rostelecom in Armenia) said.
Russian painter Mikhail Vrubel's painting "The Demon and the Angel with the Soul of Tamara" was stolen from the Museum of Russian Art in Yerevan in 1995. It was tracked down and recovered in 2017 by Russian special services. After an 8- month restoration it was returned to Armenia by Russian president Vladirmi Putin who passed it to his Armenian counterpart Serzh Sargsyan during Sargsyan’s visit to Moscow.
The literary and musical performance combined fragments from Lermontov's poem "Demon" and Anton Rubinstein’s opera, which were accompanied by Vrubel's illustrations to this poem. The most important feature of the show was the demonstration of Vrubel's paintings in the 3-D animation format. For the first time, all illustrations of the poem, which were exhibited in various museums, were selected and presented in one performance.
Thanks to the sponsorship of Rostelecom in Armenia, the literary and musical performance was supplemented by modern three-dimensional animation solutions. As a result of cooperation with the Museum of Russian Art in Yerevan, new technological solutions for the museum were developed, including a mobile application with augmented reality making Vrubel's picture to move as the angel on it "comes to life." During the exhibition, visitors can not only see, but also capture and save moving images.
Rostelecom in Armenia CEO Hayk Faramazyan noted said the return of the stolen painting is a significant event for all. He expressed satisfaction that thus the collection of the Museum of Russian Art in Yerevan re-found one of its works.
"As a technology company, it is important for us to support our partners in order to present cultural values in a new way. Such animation solutions are used for the first time on the Armenian scene, new approaches are being formed, which, I am sure, will lead to an increase in the attractiveness and attendance of cultural centers," said Faramazyan.
The project started in Armenia on March 14 with the opening of the exhibition in the Museum of Russian Art in Yerevan . It will be open for visits from March 20 to November 20.
Rostelecom’s Armenian subsidiary GNC-ALFA began promotion and sale of broadband Internet, IP-TV and a new generation of IP-telephony in Armenia under the brand of Rostelecom from 2012 December.
