YEREVAN, July 16. /ARKA/. The Armenian government will purchase high-performance computing resources from Firebird AI worth 957.8 million drams (almost $2.61 million).

At a meeting on Thursday, the executive body approved the reallocation of this amount in the 2026 state budget to finance a program to purchase AI resources from Firebird AI under a five-year agreement worth a total of $25 million.

The funds will be allocated from the state support program for commercial organizations and individual entrepreneurs in the information technology sector.

As noted in the decision's rationale, access to computing resources is planned to be provided to government agencies, universities, research centers, startups, and research groups for the development and implementation of artificial intelligence technologies.

A five-year agreement for the acquisition of computing resources worth a total of $25 million was signed between the Ministry of High-Tech Industry of Armenia and Firebird AI in April 2026.

The project is related to the data center for artificial intelligence systems being built by Firebird AI in Hrazdan, based on technologies from the American company NVIDIA.

About the AI data center project

The Armenian government, NVIDIA, Firebird, and Team Group previously announced the launch of a project in Armenia to create a supercomputer and data center based on artificial intelligence solutions.

The first phase involves an investment of $500 million and the creation of an AI data center housing thousands of NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs and infrastructure with a capacity of over 100 MW. Launch is scheduled for 2026. Firebird will own the data center, and Dell is a project partner.

The second phase, valued at $4 billion, involves expanding capacity with the addition of up to 41,000 NVIDIA GPUs. As announced, the new phase will enable the development of artificial intelligence technologies, biosciences, robotics, and space exploration. The project is being implemented with the support of the governments of Armenia and the United States. ($1 = 367.25 drams).
