YEREVAN, July 1. /ARKA/. A conference on the role of technical innovations in the general education system took place today in Yerevan.

The organizer of the event, Microsoft Armenia, said the conference focused on the use of advanced technologies in general education. “This event is of crucial importance nowadays, as we seek for a better implementation of information technologies in education,” said Grigor Barseghyan, director of Microsoft Armenia. “Out objective is to make information technologies available for everyone,” he continued.

Stressing the role of advanced technologies in high-quality education, Barseghyan urged Armenia to shift from the traditional education model to IT-based education.

In his turn, RA Minister of Education and Science Armen Ashotyan was quoted as saying during the conference: “Irrespective of critical changes in the world, we should admit that we are facing many problems in the sector.”

The minister believes information technologies are still a luxury for Armenian schools, with the funds raised by grant programs being insufficient to supply the country’s schools with computers. Z. Sh.—0--
