Eighth international electronics olympiad to close in Armenia in October

YEREVAN, January 25. /ARKA/. The final stage of the eighth international olympiad on electronics is to be held by VivaCell-MTS and Synopsys Armenia in October, executive director of Synopsys Armenia Hovik Musaelyan told ARKA Agency.
The olympiad has been held since 2005, in two stages. The first stage is a test for participant countries for establishing initial data. The second stage is the competition itself, consisting of complicated engineering tasks requiring original solutions.
“Last year the olympiad opened in 14 countries and the final stage was held in Yerevan”, Musaelyan said adding that the closing will always be held in Yerevan.
Musaelyan said that the qualifying rounds are to start in April and continue till September.
Some 418 young people engaged in IT sectors of 14 countries took part in the seventh annual international electronics olympiad held in Armenian capital in the framework of Synopsys Week on October 3-6. Of them, 191 were representing universities and organizations of Belarus, China, Egypt, Germany, India, Jordan, Malaysia, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, UAE, Ukraine and the USA.
This year Georgia, Israel, Argentina, Brazil and Chile will also join the olympiad.
“The fact that the Olympiad is held exclusively in Armenia proves that our country has good positions in microelectronics and not only in the region”, Musaelyan said.
Synopsys Inc appeared on the Armenian market after the merger of Leda Design and Monterey Arset into one, Synopsys Armenia open joint stock company in October 2004.
Synopsys has its offices in 60 countries, in North America, Europe, Japan and Asia, with its headquarters based in California (USA). –0--
