New e-commerce rules in EAEU may come into force on January 1, 2027

YEREVAN, August 10. /ARKA/. New rules regulating foreign e-commerce in the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) may come into force on January 1, 2027, the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) reports.

The heads of government of the EAEU countries have instructed that the provisions of the protocol amending the Treaty on the Customs Code of the EAEU regarding the regulation of foreign e-commerce be ready for practical application by January 1, 2027.

The EEC noted that ratification of the protocol has already been completed in Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. The document is expected to enter into force after the Eurasian Economic Commission receives the final instrument of ratification.

"The key innovation in the amendments to the EAEU Customs Code is the designation of goods purchased through foreign e-commerce as a separate category, with specific regulatory requirements defined," noted EEC Minister of Trade Andrey Slepnev.

In connection with the amendments to the EAEU Customs Code, work is underway to develop a regulatory framework for the practical application of the new regulations, including the development of domestic legislation and information systems for member states.

Once the amendments come into force, a uniform customs duty rate of 5%, but not less than €1 per kg, will apply to most e-commerce goods. The duty-free threshold will be €200.-0-
