Armenian National Archives has 1.8 million electronic documents

YEREVAN, September 19. /ARKA/. Some 1.8 million electronic documents about trade facilities, companies, private apartments and other structures are kept at the National Archives of Armenia, its director Amatuni Virabyan said today. According to him, judicial documents from all regions of Armenia, except for Gegharkunik and Lori, are also kept in the Archives.
"We are collecting and preserving the documents about everything that happens in our country. First and foremost they are documents of state bodies. There are only three state bodies that have not yet sent their documents to the archives – they are the ministries of defense, foreign affairs and the National Security Service," Virabyan said.
According to him, this year the National Archives received the documents related to the first president of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrosyan.
"These documents include everything from the first decree to the congratulations. Now we are receiving the documents of the first and second parliaments, which worked from 1995 through 2003," added Virabyan.
"The problem is that we have to start accepting electronic documents. This is connected with a range of problems, which are not typical of Armenia only. But unlike Armenia, Russia, in addition to the electronic version of documents, stores also paper ones," Virabyan said. -0-
