YEREVAN, February 2. /ARКА/. Telecommunications operators Team Telecom Armenia and Ucom have issued clarifications regarding comments and assessments that appeared in the press following changes to payment acceptance procedures, which have sparked a public outcry.

Statement from 4 payment and settlement companies

Earlier, EasyPay, Idram, Telcell, and Fast Shift stated that the new terms of cooperation proposed by telecommunications operators Viva Armenia, Team Telecom, and Ucom are one-sided and undermine the economic foundations of payment services.

The sharp reduction in fees, according to them, makes it impossible to maintain the current service format and has already led to the unilateral termination of contracts by the operators. Payment and settlement companies warn that if the changes come into force, hundreds of thousands of subscribers could lose convenient payment services and announce their intention to appeal to regulators.

Team Statement

As noted in a press release from Team Telecom Armenia, the terms proposed by payment and settlement companies—Fast Shift LLC, Idram LLC, Easy Pay LLC, and TelCell CJSC—included significantly higher tariffs for services compared to the tariffs these same companies apply, in particular, to utility providers.

In response, Team Telecom Armenia proposed that its partners align their tariffs with current market conditions, including discussing the possibility of a gradual reduction, taking into account the mutual interests of the parties. These proposals were presented in a reasoned manner, emphasizing the need to maintain market balance and the principles of fair competition.

However, the statement emphasizes that Team's proposals were not met with any reasoned objections or explanations as to why lower tariffs apply to companies providing services in other sectors, while significantly different conditions apply to the telecommunications company.

At the same time, Team Telecom Armenia continues to cooperate with all partners providing payment and settlement services on fair and transparent terms consistent with current market rates.

At the same time, placing great importance on the convenience of its subscribers, the company expresses its readiness to continue cooperation with the aforementioned payment and settlement companies, subject to mutually beneficial and fair market conditions.

Ucom Statement

In its press release, Ucom noted that during negotiations between Ucom and a number of payment and settlement service providers, it was determined that the proposed terms differed significantly from established market practice. In particular, the tariffs proposed for Ucom were significantly higher than those applied by the same payment and settlement companies, including those applied to utility providers.

Ucom announced that it had initiated a tariff review, proposing to bring them closer to accepted market conditions, based on market logic and the need to maintain a level playing field. During the discussions, possible solutions were presented, including a phased tariff change.

Ucom noted that, despite its commitment to constructive dialogue, the proposals presented did not include a clear justification or explanation for the differences in approaches applied to companies in different industries for the same services.

The company emphasized that its operations are guided by the principles of transparency, fair competition, and protecting subscriber interests. Ucom explained that the decision was also guided by these principles, as otherwise the new tariffs could have impacted the cost of other services provided to subscribers.

The company stated that Ucom is open to cooperation with all organizations providing payment and settlement services whose terms and conditions align with market logic and ensure a balanced partnership. In this regard, the possibility of revising the list of partners is not ruled out.

At the same time, Ucom stated its readiness to continue dialogue with all partners, provided mutually beneficial and fair solutions are reached without compromising subscriber convenience.
