About 1000 Armenian mobile subscribers have used the Mobile Number Portability (MNBP) service to join VivaCell-MTS telecom by keeping their old mobile phone numbers since April 1 when the service was launched, a spokesman for the company, Vahe Isahakyan, told ARKA.
YEREVAN, May 7 . / ARKA /. About 1000 Armenian mobile subscribers have used the Mobile Number Portability (MNBP) service to join VivaCell-MTS telecom by keeping their old mobile phone numbers since April 1 when the service was launched, a spokesman for the company, Vahe Isahakyan, told ARKA.
He said the service has been operating steadily and without major disruptions and only some minor faults were tracked down in the first days, which were promptly eliminated.
The Mobile Number Portability (MNP) service was launched on April 1. There are three mobile operators in Armenia - ArmenTel (trading as Beeline; it is owned fully by Russian VimpelCom), VivaCell-MTS (a subsidiary of Russian Mobile TeleSystems) and Orange Armenia (a subsidiary of France Telecom).
Last July 30 they founded the Union of MNP Operators to facilitate the introduction of the service.
VivaCell-MTS is owned by Russian Mobile Telesystems (80%) and Lebanese Fattouch Group (20%). -0-
