Number of IT companies in Armenia has grown more than 12-fold since 2018: Pashinyan
YEREVAN, January 18. /ARKA/. The number of companies in Armenia's information technology sector has increased by approximately 1,225%, or more than 12-fold, since 2018. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced this during an informal meeting with representatives from IT, artificial intelligence, telecommunications, and other technology sectors.

"Comparing strategic visions with actual performance is a good idea, allowing us to clearly see the changes that have occurred in the industry," Pashinyan noted. He noted that since 2018, the sector's turnover has grown by 171%, total revenue has nearly quadrupled, and the number of employees in the sector has more than quintupled.

Infrastructure and Digital Change

Speaking of qualitative, not just statistical, changes, the Prime Minister emphasized that satellite internet, including Starlink services, is now available throughout Armenia.
He believes this contributes to more balanced territorial development and expanded access to digital opportunities in the regions.

Pashinyan also recalled the state-of-the-art supercomputer inaugurated two days ago at Yerevan State University. This is the first such complex purchased with public funds.

High Technologies at the Border

In the context of the development of the technology sector, the Prime Minister noted the new strategic nature of Armenian-American relations. He stated that the TRIPP (Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity) project plans to introduce high-tech solutions in border and customs control.

These technologies are also expected to be applied at other border crossing points, including Zvartnots International Airport. In this regard, Pashinyan also emphasized the importance of introducing a biometric passport system.

AI in Management and the Role of Education

The Prime Minister addressed the issue of improving the efficiency of public administration, noting the importance of implementing artificial intelligence, including in the development of the regulatory impact assessment system.

He emphasized that technological development is impossible without a systemic approach to education. "Everything we implement in general, preschool, vocational, university, and postgraduate education is essentially related to technology," Pashinyan stated.

Future Policy and Personnel

During the meeting, the participants discussed Armenia's technological and digital future, anticipated state policy in the field of AI, the role of high and information technologies in the economic growth doctrine, and measurable goals for the sector's development.

Special attention was paid to educational reforms, retraining, and the development of new specialists.

Earlier, the Ministry of High-Tech Industry reported that in 2024, Armenia's IT sector turnover amounted to 915 billion drams, and including some high-tech industries, exceeded 1.15 trillion drams. According to Armstat, in the first half of 2025, revenue from the country's IT sector reached 298.4 billion drams, exceeding the previous year's figure by 25.6%.
