YEREVAN, September 12. /ARКА/. It is suggested to clarify the status of the electronic border management information system of the Republic of Armenia (EBMS) and to create an opportunity for more systematic regulation.
The National Assembly approved Thursday an amendment to the law on the state border during its session on Thursday.
It is proposed to legally establish that the EBMS system functions for the effective implementation of border control, as well as to specify which data sets should be included and displayed within the system.
It is intended to set general conditions for access to the system and data entry, in addition to clarifying the range of issues that are subject to regulation at the by-law level.
Once the law is enacted, it is anticipated that a by-law will be adopted within six months.
The law will define the purposes for which the data processed in this system may be utilized. This will restrict the government in determining the list of state bodies and organizations authorized to use the EBMS.
During the discussions, concerns regarding personal data protection, the expansion or reduction of the list of bodies with access to the EBMS system, and the ability of citizens to access information about themselves contained within the system were raised.-0-
