Electronic system for Armenian citizenship issues is being tested in Armenia
YEREVAN, October 2 /ARKA/. The Migration and Citizenship Service, part of the Armenian Ministry of Internal Affairs, is set to initiate a new electronic system for both acquiring and terminating citizenship in a test phase starting October 6.

This initiative aims to prevent potential overloads in the citizenship appointment system, which is scheduled to be fully digitized by January 1, 2026, as stated by the press service of the Armenian Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Applications will be accepted solely through the new electronic system. At a specific point in the administrative process, applicants will need to visit the Migration Service office in person for physical identification and verification of original documents.

Beginning October 6, applicants will have the ability to:

• register on the online platform,

• create, modify, and submit a preliminary application for acquiring or terminating Armenian citizenship,

• choose a date for their visit to the Migration Service, which cannot be earlier than January 22, 2026.

Citizens of the Republic of Armenia will register in the new system exclusively via the "It is Me" national identification platform, which necessitates an identification card and an mID electronic digital signature.

Foreign citizens, refugees, and stateless individuals will have the option to register voluntarily, provided they present mandatory identification or email confirmation along with a copy of their travel document.

After submitting a preliminary application, the state fee must be settled no later than 10 days prior to the chosen visit date. Failure to make this payment will lead to the cancellation of the appointment.

On the day of the visit, applicants are required to present the original documents listed in the application and, depending on the nature of the application, undertake a test in the Armenian language and the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia.-0-
