Digital driver's license generation for all drivers completed in Armenia — minister
YEREVAN, September 4. /ARKA/. The Armenian Road Police has successfully generated digital driver's licenses for all drivers, as stated by Interior Minister Arpine Sargsyan.
These licenses can be accessed on the roadpolice.am platform, which requires registration and identification on the website.
"As of September 1, 2025, both driver's licenses and registration certificates have transitioned to a digital format. There is no longer a necessity to carry a physical license," Sargsyan remarked during a government meeting on Thursday, noting that previously, individuals faced administrative penalties for not possessing a physical driver's license.
"For citizens obtaining a license for the first time, there is an option to select either a physical or digital license. In the case of the latter, the state fee is reduced by half," Sargsyan further explained.
She also addressed the modifications in the procedure for retaking driving license examinations, which took effect on September 1, 2025. For an additional fee, individuals can expedite the retake deadline (even to the following day) by registering online.
The minister mentioned that the possibility of outsourcing the driving license examination process to private companies is under consideration, although regulations and licensing are necessary to maintain standards.
Driving exams can be conducted at any police department across the nation.
"Furthermore, starting September 1, it will be feasible to complete the online transfer of vehicle ownership (purchase and sale) within a single day. Previously, this process required 1-3 days, and citizens incurred a fee of 5 thousand drams for the transaction and 6 thousand drams for obtaining a registration certificate," Sargsyan stated.
The Minister also noted that if a citizen wishes to retain the previous state registration number of their vehicle, they will be exempt from paying duties of 12 thousand drams and 36 thousand drams, respectively. ($1 - 382.65 drams).-0-
