YEREVAN, September 30. /ARKA/. Armenia's National Assembly commenced its initial reading of a draft legislation on cybersecurity along with several associated bills on Tuesday. This legislation aims to establish a new authority responsible for regulating information systems.

According to Minister of High-Tech Industry Mkhitar Hayrapetyan, this new authority is to be established by the National Assembly and comprise a five-member commission, also to be elected by parliament.

"This initiative addresses a crucial objective: the establishment of an independent, non-political body that will focus on attracting highly skilled and competent specialists and experts. Cybersecurity represents a vital aspect concerning national security threats," Hayrapetyan emphasized.

He further mentioned that there are intentions to develop suitable cybersecurity infrastructures in alignment with international standards within government entities and the private sector, in addition to initiating a cybersecurity service system.

The minister indicated that the initial phase involves the implementation of the system with the collaboration of companies that manage critical infrastructure.

"The government's program for 2021-2026 outlines the need for legislative and institutional reforms to take steps towards enhancing cybersecurity. This comprehensive package of draft laws addresses this matter and provides well-founded legislative solutions aimed at strengthening resilience in the fields of cyber defense and cybersecurity," Hayrapetyan remarked.-0-
