Armenia to have information systems regulator — minister
YEREVAN, August 14. /ARKA/. High-Tech Industry Minister Mkhitar Hayrapetyan announced that a new body regulating information systems will be created in Armenia.
On Thursday, the Armenian government approved a package of bills, including “On Cybersecurity,” “On Public Information,” and “On the Information Systems Regulatory Authority.”
According to Hayrapetyan, the new authority will serve as a security center that identifies, prevents, and eliminates cyber incidents.
"The Ministry of High Technologies and Industry and its partners, particularly the Information Systems Agency of Armenia, have been working on these packages for a long time. Initially, it was decided that two main laws were necessary: “On Cybersecurity” and “On Public Information.” However, during the discussions, it was decided to include a new law on the creation of a new autonomous body in this package," Hayrapetyan noted.
According to the Minister, the Law on Cybersecurity identifies areas of vital importance and critical infrastructures in both the public and private sectors. It also establishes standards for risk and impact assessments.
"This, of course, does not mean that we will abandon the idea of developing and implementing our national standards in the future. We must ensure that these national standards are competitive with international ones and address our own internal issues," said Hayrapetyan.-0-
