Armenia to establish new information systems regulatory authority

YEREVAN, December 4. /ARКА/. Today, the National Assembly of Armenia has adopted the bill On Cybersecurity and several related bills in the second and final reading.

The bill provides for the creation of a new body to regulate information systems in the country.

As Minister of High-Tech Industry Mkhitar Hayrapetyan stated in parliament, the new body should be established by the National Assembly and will consist of a five-member commission, also elected by parliament.

"This addresses one fundamental objective: the creation of an autonomous, depoliticized body that should bring together highly qualified and capable specialists and experts. Cybersecurity is a significant component in terms of threats to national security," Hayrapetyan noted.

According to him, there are also plans to implement relevant cybersecurity infrastructure in accordance with international standards in government agencies and the private sector, as well as to deploy a cybersecurity service system.-0-
