Armenia's parliament approves amendments to Law on Audiovisual Media
YEREVAN, October 24. /ARКА/. During an extraordinary session on Friday, Armenia's National Assembly passed an amendment to the Law on Audiovisual Media in its second and final reading.
This amendment specifies that there must be at least two public broadcasters in Armenia. At present, five broadcasters receive state funding, and the passage of this bill is anticipated to result in a more effective allocation of financial resources.
Previously, RA Minister of High Technology Industry Mkhitar Hayrapetyan, responding to the concerns raised by opposition MPs, emphasized that the proposed draft does not include provisions for the closure of any television channel.
However, this legislative proposal has sparked worries among opposition members. Lilit Galstyan, a representative of the opposition faction "Armenia," has urged for the bill to be retracted, arguing that its approval could jeopardize the existence of the Church television channel "Shoghakat."-0-
