YEREVAN, December 29. /ARKA/. Armenian Minister of High-Tech Industry Mkhitar Hayrapetyan proposed piloting an "Artificial Intelligence (AI) Literacy Program" at Yerevan State University (YSU).
The minister announced the initiative on December 26 at a meeting of the YSU Board of Trustees, proposing to include AI literacy fundamentals in the list of courses taught starting in the 2026/27 academic year, the ministry's press service reported.
According to Hayrapetyan, artificial intelligence is gradually becoming an integral part of the educational process and professional activity. "In this regard, systemic learning is seen as the most effective way to both harness the potential of AI and minimize the risks associated with its use," he noted.
The minister stated that YSU, as Armenia's flagship university and one of the leading educational institutions, could serve as a platform for the pilot implementation of the program. If the initiative is successful, it is planned to expand to other Armenian universities, as well as general education institutions.
The program's goal is to provide specialists in various fields with the opportunity to safely and effectively apply AI tools in their professional activities, understand the basic principles of AI, and work with AI-based solutions, regardless of their background.
