Armenia mulls online safety for teenagers and a “cell phone-free” school environment

YEREVAN, April 9. /ARKA/. The concept of an online safety program for children under 16 and improving the “cell phone-free” school environment were discussed yesterday at a meeting between Armenian Minister of High-Tech Industry Mkhitar Hayrapetyan and representatives of various departments.

As reported by the press service of the Ministry of High-Tech Industry, Hayrapetyan noted that, in particular, thoughtless, excessive and illiterate use of social networks, digital platforms and mobile devices can have a negative impact on children and teenagers, causing serious challenges and risks.

According to him, protecting children on the Internet cannot be considered the exclusive responsibility of one department, and positive results can only be achieved through joint and coordinated work.

To make informed decisions in this direction, the minister proposed using the experience of leading countries in this area, as well as research and recommendations from international organizations.

During the meeting, a decision was made to create a working group to address the existing problems. -0-
