YEREVAN, April 3. /ARKA/. Armenia is discussing restricting access to social media for children under 16, said Tamara Sargsyan, head of the General Education Department of the RA Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports.

"This issue is being considered jointly with the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs and the Ministry of High-Tech Industry," Sargsyan said at a press conference on Friday, Armenpress reports.
According to her, a study is being conducted to identify the main opportunities, risks, and challenges.

"Only with a complete picture will it be possible to understand what regulations are needed and how to apply them accurately and in a targeted manner. Accordingly, it will become clear which websites will be restricted. This is a sensitive topic, with many questions and aspects. We have raised questions about the extent to which it will be possible to identify a child's device. It is important that we be confident that we have control over this decision," Sargsyan said.

She noted that there are problems in this area and that they need to be addressed.

"Children's digital protection is a priority. The state must ensure that it has created sufficient tools and regulations to protect children in the digital environment," Sargsyan emphasized.
