AI center will open at Yerevan State University, says minister
YEREVAN, January 7. /ARKA/. The opening of an Artificial Intelligence Center at Yerevan State University will likely take place next week, announced Armenian Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan.
"Last year, a supercomputer was delivered for these purposes, for which the government alone allocated over 3.4 billion drams (about $9 million)," Andreasyan noted at a press conference on Wednesday.
The minister emphasized that this opens up entirely new opportunities for both the university and its research activities.
It was previously reported that Armenia's second supercomputer would be installed at Yerevan State University; it would be assembled using components from the American company Nvidia. Work is underway to configure it.
This is not a copy of the supercomputer installed at Engineering City (the first in Armenia, named after Charles Aznavour), but an entirely new device with fundamentally different functionality, which will allow it to process large volumes of data and perform large-scale calculations.-0-
