Some $6.5 million to be invested in production of Armenian tablets
YEREVAN, February 11. / ARKA /. Head of Technology and Science Dynamics Inc. / Armtab Technology, Vahan Shaqaryan, told a news conference today that the company will invest around $6.5 million into the production of Armenian tablets, which is set to begin in May once the company completes the construction of its plant in an area of 500 square meters at a free economic zone in Yerevan.
According to him, the plant will have the capacity to produce up to 100 thousand tablets per year. He, however, could not say how much a tablet will cost.
Speaking about the decision to start production of tablets in Armenia Shakaryan said that Minno company, which is the founder of ArmTab Technology is a well-known brand selling its produces in the U.S. and Latin America. The deign of its products is made in the USA, production is in China, while research and development and testing of devices have been made over the past four years by Armenian specialists who are dispatched to China.
“Production in China is much cheaper than in Armenia, but in view of additional costs and to have assembly units and R&D company close to each other Minno chose to move its production to Armenia " , said Shakaryan.
"Minno tablets will be assembled in Armenia and sold in the U.S. and Latin America, while ArmTab tablets will be sold in the CIS, Arab and partly European countries, " said Shakaryan.
"We have founded ArmTab company to show that Armenia can produce high-class goods and has the required engineering potential," he said.
Technology and Science Dynamics Inc. was founded on October 11, 2013. The company has assembled the first Android-based tablets and ArmPhone first Armenian smartphones. Design and software is developed in Armenia, but tablets and phones are currently assembled in the USA and Hong Kong.
The company intends to step by step move the entire manufacturing process to Armenia. Under a government decree, the company is allowed to run its operations at the free economic zone for three years at MARS factory in Yerevan. -0-
