VMware pledges to invest $100 million in Armenia
YEREVAN, September 27. / ARKA /. One of the world's largest software developers, American VMware company plans to invest more than $100 million in its software development center in Armenia in the next 4-5 years, the company’s executive vice president Raghu Raghuram told a news conference in Yerevan.
“VMware is a large global company operating in more than 40 countries. But only in a few countries we focus on software development. We are planning an aggressive growth in Armenia in the next few years,» he said.
VMware entered the Armenian market in 2010 after buying the Armenian- American Company Integrien and establishing VMware Eastern Europe representation. Today its Armenian office has 60 staff members.
The vice -president said that over the next three years VMware will be doubling the number of engineers in Armenia. He said the company’s Armenian engineers are working with the most innovative developments. “We are very pleased to have done so much in Armenia, but this is just the beginning," he stressed.
According to Raghuram , the Armenian center is the only one in the region run by the company.
"The reason we're here is talents. We were lucky to have hired highly qualified engineers - more than 95% of our employees have advanced degrees, many of them doctorates. We are very pleased with the quality of our team," he added.
VMware was founded in 1998. According to Forbes, it is among the three most innovative companies in the world. Among its customers are Apple, IBM, Dell, Compaq, Fujitsu Siemens, Sun Microsystems, Hitachi, HP, Cisco and Intel. It employs 13,000 people in 46 countries. In 2012 it earned $4.61 billion in profit. .-0-
