Russian government agencies to buy low-cost laptops assembled in Armenia
YEREVAN, June 22. /ARKA/. Russian government agencies are likely to buy low-cost laptops from Western vendors assembled at a large plant in Armenia, the Russian daily Kommersant writes.
A Kommersant source in a state corporation said the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Digital Economy together with the consortium Computer Engineering were discussing the criteria for allowing public procurement of computer equipment and electronics produced in the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), which besides Russia includes Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.
Another source of the daily in the government said that the government will buy cheap laptops which will simply be assembled at a large plant in Armenia.
The daily says the agreement, signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin on December 6 that gave preference to Russia -made electronics in public procurement over the equipment produced by EEU members, expires July 1.
In order to apply for participation in Russian government procurement tenders, manufacturers of equipment in EEU countries had to provide a certificate of origin of the equipment, as well as prove the production of equipment within the country. --0--
